Religious Polemics Between the Eastern and Western Church in Sermons, and in Dialogical Edifying Texts in 1741 and 1743
In the context of 18th century Christian sermons and teaching, the polemical insistence of the Dominican Vicko M. Gucetic (1743) and the Franciscan Stjepan Vilov (1741) on the correctness of only one creed and Church, while all others were "lying", is shown as a logical phenomenon based on the teaching about one God and one Church - "Unus Deus, una fides."- coupled with the imperative for recognition of one head of the Church -"Unum corpus, unus spiritus.". Popularisation of theological polemics narrowed the gap between the faith of the masses and theology, and brought it down to the level of popular faith. This phenomenon being, unquestionably, part of the popular Baroque.
