Water vapour permeability of biodegradable films
The European project CIP Eco-innovation entitled MarineClean (full name of the project is Marine debris removal and preventing further litter entry) was proposed with the main aim to reduce the sea pollution, by the development of marine waste removal equipment and by promoting marine degradable packaging. Only a few biodegradable plastic materials degrade in marine waters, and one of them is poly(hidroxyalkanoate) (PHA), so the material based on PHA was chosen for the MarineClean project. Some tests were also done with edible material made of zein, corn protein. The paper presents the testing of the water vapour transmission rate in order to test the suitability of the marine degradable films for food packaging.
