The Role of Tradition in Cultural Tourism Development

The thesis deals with the problem of tradition and its relationship to other concepts, such as intangible heritage or custom, or in more general culture. It also aims to determine the role and the importance of tradition in society. The topic is approached from the cultural-anthropological point of view. The impact of tourism on tradition and vice versa is explored. Because of tourism, almost forgotten traditions have been revived ; some existing traditions have been changed in order to meet the “tastes” of tourists and some traditions have become “frozen” in order to “prove” their authenticity.
