Trends and Future Visions of Physical Education: Croatian Challenges
Based on scientific research, physical activity is recognized as an indispensable factor in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of various chronic noncommunicable diseases, which in most countries are the basic public health problems. The Republic of Croatia is not an exception. For that reason, teaching about physical education (PE) may, and has to, contribute to the increased level of physical activity among children and adolescents. During the last several years, various changes have been implemented to increase the quality of and improve the educational system in the Republic of Croatia and to create the most competitive scientific and educational society in this part of Europe. In this chapter, we will demonstrate what those changes are affecting and in what way they are affecting the domain of PE. Also, we will emphasize actions in the scope of health policies that bring about a discussion of PE as a strategy for health care.
