An intermetallic bonding between an aluminum piston alloy and a ring carrier

This paper presents the results of investigating an intermetallic bond between an aluminum piston alloy and a ring carrier made of austenitic cast iron (Ni-Resist). A metallographic investigation using an optical microscope in combination with the SEM analysis of the quality of the intermetallic bonding layer was done. The test results show that the formation of metal connection between two materials of different qualities can be successfully made.
