Dam breaks investigation in Croatia
Croatia is a country with a significant amount of water resources. Levees are constructed along rivers to provide protection against fluvial floods. In the case when a breach occurs in a levee, floods can cause significant property damage. For this reason, extensive researches are conducted to reduce the possibility of destructive floods effects. This paper presents the results of a literature overview of a breach formation mechanisms in levees and the implementation of developed program based on an equations that are describing the physical processes of breach growth. For the case of breach formation during the flood wave on the river Drava near Virje Otok (Croatia) outflow hydrograph calculated with the parametric model (HEC-RAS) and the developed program based on physical processes are compared. A developed laboratory model for erosion control is described at the end.
