BENCHMARKING OF NATIONAL PASSENGERS TRAFFIC IN CENTRAL EUROPE
National railway passenger traffic is the foundation of the public transport system of the country. Each country individually tries to provide a certain level of service for the national railways. Of course, the level of service quality, primarily speed, significantly depends on the technical conditions of the infrastructure. The other indicators of service depend on the railway undertakings. An effective method of comparing the railway undertakings is benchmarking. Benchmarking allows comparison of indicators of individual undertakings thereby enabling ranked by performance. Of course, the method allows finding the best and worst undertakings. The paper presents the benchmarking of Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. In each country three characteristic lines are selected with the criteria of distance, travel time, cost and frequency.
