Changes in rCBF in bulimia nervosa: cause or consequence?
Ten newly diagnosed patietns with a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa underwent rCBF examination using SPECT with 99mTc-ECD, together with ten age- and sex-matched controls. All bulimic patietns were characterized by abnormal rCBF, predominantly affecting prefrontal cortex and the temporal lobe. It might be the consequence of neurophysiological changes following nutritional deficiences and/or the result of some associated symptoms such as anxiety or depression.
