Electrophysiological and regional cerebral blood flow correlation in schizophrenic patients after substitution of haloperidol by risperidone
This study examined the relationship of rCBF and P 300 ERPs in 13 schizoprenic female patients treated with haloperidol after being replaced by risperidone. The co-occurence of rCBF, clinical and electrophysiological improvements serve as a powerfull indicator of cognitive function and risperidone effectiveness, having a greater beneficial influence on neurocognition compared to conventional antipsychotics, also helping in understanding the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and encouraging the use of SPECT for individual estimation of different antipsychotic effects.
regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF); single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT); schizophrenia; haloperidol; risperidone; P 300 auditory event-related potential components (ERPs)
