Quality of life in patients with visible skin lesion

Facial appearance plays a large role in self-perception and interaction with others. Visible skin lesions on the head are a common condition. Acne vulgaris, rosacea and alopecia androgentica are the most common dermatosis capable of producing psychological and physical scarring. Because of its recurrent character, frequent unsatisfying results of treatment and a cosmetic problem, it is common for patient to develop psychological problem as a consequence of the condition, such as those related to low self-esteem, social phobias, depression, anxiet and lowered quality of life. Self assessment of acne severity is often more severe than dermatological clinical evaluation what is important data in understanding the necessity of individual approachment to the patient. Androgenetic alopecia or alopecia androgenetica is a common form of hair loss in both male and femal. It is characterized by the recession of the frontal hairline and overall thining in the vertex area in man and in women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede. Hair plays an important role in determining self-image, social perceptions, and psychosocial functioning, identified with beauty, youth and health. People with alopecia have higher levels of anxiety and depression than controls. They also experience lower self-esteem, poorer quality of life, and poorer body image. In patients with rosacea there is a strong relationship between their symptoms and how they feel about themselves. Level of anxiety and depression as well as social integration proved to be the predictors of life satisfaction. In this study we wanted to assess quality of life in patients with common visible skin lesions using psychological scale questionare. Severe facial blemishes of any cause could have a significant impact on QOL, and the effect of these lesions could be mediated in part by psychological characteristics related to self-perception and self-presentation. the skin lesions cause negative patients’ psychosocial functioning. Self assessment of acne severity is often more severe than dermatological clinical evaluation what is important data in understanding the necessity of individual approachment to the patient. Because of its recurrent character, frequent unsatisfying results of treatment and a cosmetic problem, the skin lesions cause negative patients’ psychosocial functioning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate life satisfaction, social support, general health, anxiety and depression level in people with rosacea This study assessed factors associated with health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in women with visible facial skin lesions. Androgenetic alopecia or alopecia androgenetica is a common form of hair loss in both male and femal. In male humans this condition is also commonly known as male-pattern baldness. It is characterized by the recession of the frontal hairline and overall thining in the vertex area. The pattern of hair loss in women differs from male-pattern baldness. In women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede. The negative psychological impact of hair loss has been documented in both men and women. Hair plays an important role in determining self-image, social perceptions, and psychosocial functioning. It’s important for our self-esteem, self-perception and other people’s perception about us. Hair is in many cultures identified with beauty, youth and health. Most of the research shows that people with alopecia have higher levels of anxiety and depression than controls. They also experience lower self-esteem, poorer quality of life, and poorer body image. The psychological impact of androgenetic alopecia is more severe for women than for men. Hair is essential to the identity of many women. Femininity, sexuality, attractiveness, and personality are symbolically linked to a woman's hair, more so than for a man. In this study we wanted to assess quality of life in androgenetic alopecia patients using psychological scale (QOL Questionare). Level of anxiety and depression as well as social integration proved to be the predictors of life satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The overall results show that patients with acne suffer from psychosocial problems caused by their disease, but the impairment dependes less on the objective severity of acne and more on the patient's perception of the condition
