Microstructural Characterization of Steel for Ground Anchors
Microstructural characterization of pearlitic steel used in ground anchors was performed in order to reveal the effect of heat treatment on highly deformed grains in as-received material. The influence of annealing temperature on the commercial cold drawn steel wires was investigated by optical microscopy and hardness measurements. Results have shown that heat energy absorbed in specimens at 450 ºC and 720 ºC changes microstructure significantly. Metallographic observations are discussed in terms of recovery and recrystallization phenomena.
