Influence of the Components of Neurodevelopment Treatment and Sensoric Integration on Development of a Child with Cerebral Palsy

Discord of movements by children with demaged middle nervous system is based on untypical postural tonus, which is disability of keeping normal stabile antigravity position and usage of untypical compensation forms of movement (Coling, 1991.). Basic aim of neurodevelopment treatment/NDT, is normalization of the muscle tonus. Components of neurodevelopment treatment include preparation, facilitation, inhibition, positioning and acts of moving. The main aim of this research was to exam the influence of components of neurodevelopment treatment program and sensorial integration on development of psychomotorical functions on a child with cerebral palsy (chronological age 8 months). Program was taken in the counseling office of Educational-Rehabilitation Faculty in Zagreb, during time of 3 months. Help of Munich functional development diagnostic did evaluation of results. This program included tactile, vestibule and proprioceptive activities. Success of sensor integration is in discovering the fact what inhibit and what excite the child. Sensor affective disorder can influence social and emotional functioning, as well as motor activities of a child. One of techniques used in this research, connected with sensor integration (according to Wilbarger and Royeen, 1987.) is based on touching separate region of children skin, using deep pressure combined with soft repeated and non irritating touch, as well as clinic message, and afterwards compression of joint on specific places. This procedure was repeated few times a day, three times a week during two weeks. Children with disorder of motor development have inefficient experience of vestibule treatment. In this program vestibule information werw treated different, depending on the position of head and body. Proprioceptive activities werw used for the normalization of muscle tonus, as well as in increasing of the child consciousness of his own body and improvement of his own body image. The results of changes are shown by components of change, which proves that neurodevelopment treatment and sensor integration program positively influence development of psycho/motor functions of a child with cerebral palsy.
