From dementia to sexually transmitted disease
Dementia is a syndrome of global and progressive damage of cognitive functions (memory, learning, abstract thinking, orientation) with conserved consciousness. The manifestations of the disease are various, with sometimes combined neurological and psychiatric symptoms, like in certain physical diseases. People who suffer from dementia often do not seek for help themselves, but are brought instead by close-related people who spot their difficulties in functioning. Anamnesis and heteroanamnesis are a relevant source of information from which one can draw conclusions about the behavior and functioning of a person before the manifestation of the symptoms. Details and whole data about the history of the life of the ill can be an important guideline to diagnosis. We will present the case of a patient hospitalized on the Department of psychiatry for behavior changes, who indicated developing of dementia. The patient manifested symptomatology that was not consistent with the clinical image of dementia. One heteroanamnestic data gave us guideline in diagnostics. Psychological symptoms were consequence of infective diseases.
