Women's National Election Success or Stagnancy? A Study on the Implementation of Croatia's Quota Legislation in the 21st Century
This paper studies these factors and the consequences of a stronger female representation for the political system and the society on the whole, on a case study of Republic of Croatia. Especially so in the light of the provisions of the Law on Gender Equality which stipulates political parties' obligations to introduce positive measures while compiling lists for any election. The author concludes that, while the increased share of women in national parliament may improve the position of women in the society and strengthen the trust of both women and men in the representative institution, it is, first and formost, a legal obligation that political parties need to adhere to in the near future.
