Historical Researches of WWII in Yugoslavia – The Situation in Croatia in a Broader Yugoslav Context
This paper presents the main determinants of the situation related to the historical research of the period of the Second World War, and the National Liberation Struggle (NOB) in post-war Croatia and Yugoslavia. With these research areas at the time after World War II dealt primarily “Communist Party historiography” institutions at the national level and at the federal level (as well as the Vojnoistorijski institut). The “party historiography” included, beside the history of NOB, the history of the labor movement and the history of the Communist Party, and a monopoly on historical interpretations related to these topics Communist Party kept for itself during the whole period of socialistic Yugoslavia. Because this part of historiography had a clear propaganda purpose for the new government, due to the legitimization function what is the Communist Party had NOB, interpretive freedom was very limited, and the interpretative framework was given in advance, primarily by the texts of Josip Broz Tito. The speech focuses on the period 1945-1960.
