REEXAMINATION OF CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FACE AND THE TOOTH FORM

The aim of this study was to reexamine Leon WIIIiams geometric theory and to find out correlation between the face shape and the tooth form in our population. Two thousand Individuals were measured for 3 horizontal distances on the face: temporal width (Ft-Ft), zygomatic width (Zyg-Zyg) and gonial width (Go-Go) and for 3 horizontal distances on the both upper incisors: cervical width, contact point width and Inclsal width. The length of the face (Tr-Gn) as well as the length of the Incisors were also meosured. Based on the relation between the measured horizontal distances. 1 1 different face shapes and 10 different tooth forms could be recognised, but 3 face shapes (oval-83, 3%, square-tappering-9, 2% and tappering-7%) and 3 tooth forms(oval-30%, tappered-square-53% and tapered incisor-16%) covered 99% of the population. Tooth and face form corresponded in only 30% of population, while the most common combination - more than 45% was the oval face shape and the tapered-square tooth. The dimensions of upper central incisors were on average 1 - 1,5 mm smaller In the measured population than reported by other authors for the white population (6.97 mm contact point width and 6.85 incisor edge width). Men had slgniftcantly bigger dimensions for all facial and tooth dimensions than women, except for the cervical tooth width. The left and the right central incisor identical forms. This result may be helpful for the Choice of artlflclal teeth and the dental industry.
