The effect of zeolite waste on processes of stabilization/solidifcation and properties of cement composites
It was examined the effect of different quantities of natural zeolite saturated by Zn^2+ ions, as harmful waste, on hydration processes, its stabilization in cement composites, and mechanical properties of cement composites. Hydration processeswere studied by determing the values of reaction heat by means differential microcalorimetry, while the stabilization of harmful waste was determined by means of UV/Vis spectrophotometric analysis from the concentration of Zn^2+ ions in elutes after leaching. Mechanical properties of cement composites were studied by means of strenght measurements after 3, 7 and 28 days. The results obtained indicate that zeolite waste can be successfully stabilized in hydration processes by solidification in cement composites, thereby reducing its harmful effects on the environment to acceptable values.
