The effectiveness of innovative equipment for hardening from a noble gas atmosphere
The effect of hardening technology on the quality of tools and dies for industrial application is pointed out. A need to increase the intensity of cooling in quenching to reduce the precipitation of carbides along the austenite grain boundaries is identified. An outline of the development of vacuum hardening furnaces that employ high pressure gas quenching and of oil quench vacuum furnaces is given. In addition, the development of own innovative furnace for the hardening of tools and dies is described. In this furnace, heating is carried out in helium and quenching in an integrated thermal bath. Economic indicators of the newly developed furnace and of vacuum furnaces are compared. Results obtained by the analysis of operating costs of both hardening furnaces indicate significantly lower operating costs in the case when the equipment for hardening from a noble gas atmosphere is used.
