Airport planning according to the principles of sustainable development
An aerodrome for general aviation covers several tens of hectares. An airport for commercial aeroplanes covers several hundred hectares. Aerodrome has to be horizontal especially on movement area. Aerodrome operations have influence on environment within and outside the aerodrome fence as noise, air pollution, possibility of underground water and soil contamination. Construction of certain number of new airports for critical aeroplane ATR-42 is being planned by the Republic of Croatia Area Planning Strategy. The issue of this paper will be the necessity of careful planning of a new airport which must be balanced between the economical criteria and benefits for the community on one hand, and land use economising on the principles of sustainable development, including all environmental aspect on the other.
