Mathematical Model For Cell Loss Probability In Partial Buffer Sharing Scheme

The partial sharing scheme is a very efficient space priority control scheme, in the case of congestion control of the traffic with multiple loss priority classes. This paper deals with determination of cell loss probabilities using this scheme for overload control. By using a new mathematical model analytical simulations of the four-priority buffer system controlled by this scheme are performed. Dependencies of cell loss probabilities upon four relevant parameters are analyzed. These parameters are: position of cell loss thresholds, buffer capacity, the number of output cells which leave the buffer in every timeslot and maximum cell number in arrival batch. The results of this analysis will be used as a foundation for the position determination of optimal cell loss thresholds in the output buffer system.
