Biopolitical Other(others)
The text is analyzing why in ‘postmodern condition’, when we think about the question of the Other, the dominance of the biopolitical Other can be observed on a global scale. The text is pointing out how the logic of production of postmodern power and the downfall of Master discourse (end of grand narratives, rise of nihilism) has as a consequence degradation of the symbolically articulated Other. Dominant post-Other is on the level of the Lacanian Real. Also, the logic of postmodern power degrades territorially based modern political communities, sovereign states. The consequence of that degradation is that the state of exception (once reserved for exceptional time) becomes a rule. Because of the downfall of Master discourse and the rise of nihilism, ‘bare life’ is becoming the locus of political power making politics dominantly biopolitics. So, a different name for the post-Other is biopolitical Other.
