Treatment results of childrenhood acute lymphatic leukemia in Croatia using the ALL-BFM 90 protocol
Purpose: Children (86) with acute lymphatic leukaemia (ALL) were treated with protocol ALL-BFM 90 from 1st June 1992 to 1st June 1997. The results of treatment were analysed. Methods and results: The first complete remission was achieved in 86 (100%-33 day; in 71/83%-15 day). The first relapse occurred in 12 (14%) patients (9 hematologic relapse; 1 meningeal relapse, 2 hematologic and meningeal relapse). Afrer a median observation time of 32 months the overall probability for eventfree survival (p-EFS) is 81+/-2%. 14 patients (16%) died (12 during relapse and 2 for other reasons). At this time p-EFS for each strategic group is: 87+/-3% for SRG, 86+/-2% for MRG and 41+/-5% for HRG. Conclusion: These preliminary results indicate that for 85% of ALL patients risk-adapted intensive therapy provide a high chance for cure and the achieved results do not differ gratly from the results achived by other European Centres for the treatment of acute lymphatic leukaemia.
