Thermal non-destructive testing (TNDT) quantification of subsurface defects

TNDT is based on thermal stimulation of the observed object and recording the referent surface temperature response in time. The paper presents the research done on the specimen made of steel, having subsurface defects. The defects are in the form of cylinders containing air. There are six defects of the same diameter located at different depth from the referent surface. The experimental part of the research involved IR thermography, while the quantification of the defects has been done by means of the mathematical model based on the control volume numerical method.
