Memory Formation Through the Street Names - Town of Šibenik

Research in this paper was about changes of Šibenik street names. It was explored upon which persons, events, places the streets of Šibenik were named: how many persons upon which the streets of Šibenik were named are of female gender, how many are of male gender ; what are their professions and merits ; in which historical periods they lived ; how many locations found in Šibenik street names are located in Croatia and how many outside Croatia ; how many events found in Šibenik street names have occurred in Croatia and how many outside Croatia, etc. Method of research was to compare the street names of Šibenik by examining three Šibenik City Maps - one from the year 1956, second from the year 1981 and third from the year 2005. The goal of the research was to reach conclusions about the creation, dissolution and maintenance of the memory of certain persons, events and locations in Šibenik through the use of street labeling memory politics.
