DEALING WITH INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES: TWO CASE STUDIE
Drawing upon the data from Attitudes and Motivation Test Battery (AMTB), and the observational data based on ten individual sessions with learners with learning difficulties, this study presents a complex picture of the way the two participants understand and processs the foreign language presented through multisensory instruction (MSI). Multisensory instruction is achieved when the language content is presented in a versatile, systematic and dynamic manner, with its genesis in the principles of mind connection and sense engagement (McIntosh and Peck, 2005). The two principles advocate the importance of meaningful language instruction, which is beneficial for the two participants with learning difficulties. And regardless of the results yielded by AMTB, which showed high level of language anxiety for both participants, the study on two language learners showed that MSI may possibly facilitate the language learning process ; and that it may possibly overall have a positive effect on their affective factors. It is suggested that teachers should, therefore, integrate MSI into their classrooms, with the aim of accommodating to learners' needs, and establishing a succesful foreign language learning environment.
