Teaching radical text? Paradoxes around Women's Studies and Feminism(s) in Croatia nowadays
This contribution is envisioned as a joint venture, namely a problem-mirroring of Women's/Gender's Studies issues from two interrelating positions and perspectives, inside and outside academic system. Both situations/locations are insecure and both function as defiant oasis of feminist knowledge-production within the anti-feminist climate accompanied by functional operating educational agenda, consumerist turn in higher education and cognitive capitalism. In addition, recent „moralistic“ offensive of the Catholic Church-supporting groups against sexual education in Croatia („the fight against gendered ideology“), has reduced a place for creative discussion among scholars and has made feminist scholarship even more „suspect“. Therefore, the desire for feminist knowledge among young students/scholars/women is in discrepancy with the current state of relative invisibility and lack of strength of feminist activism. We would like to discuss the question of how to re-invent a desirability of social change in that context, as well as the feminist commitment for decolonizing knowledge crossing academia/alternative education dichotomy.
