The identity of the Dalmatian peregrines in Roman army on the epigraphic monuments outside the Dalmatia

On the basis of the analysis of the epigraphic monuments we tried to establish the pattern how the Dalmatian peregrines have expressed their national identity outside Dalmatia. Some inscriptions mention the information about the origin along with autochthonous name, some mention the information of the origin along with romanized name, while some mention only the names characteristic for the peregrines of Dalmatian origin. The criterion for distinguishing the Dalmatian origin is established according to the mention of the ethnonyms which can be related to the province of Dalmatia, while the onomastics is casually considered in this research. Although the monuments of the sailors are most numerous, thanks to the syntagm natione Dalmata/Delmata, they don't reveal closely the origin on the level of peregrine communities and peoples of Dalmatia. For that information the inscriptions of the field army soldiers are more reliable source. We consider that this difference in the epigraphic habit and expressing the origin on the monuments of Dalmatian sailors and field army soldiers was the reflection of the Roman administrative system. The special regard will be directed to the Liburnian people for which we think they were in more favorable position in regard to the rest of the autochthonous inhabitants of Dalmatia.
