Hemorrhagic fever with renal sydrome: Clinical presentation
HFRS begins abruptly, with hihg fever, myalgias, especially in the lumbal region, and abdominal pain. Severe headache, malaise und nausea are also characteristic, accompanied often with vomiting or diarrhoea and respiratory symptoms. In Croatia, a mildr form disease caused by Puumala virus is more frequent, and the course of disease usually includes two stages. The mortality rate is less than 1%.
