Sažetak
In the recent years, supercapacitors have attracted significant attention as they provide high power and high energy densities. Metal oxides are promising materials for such applications [1]. SnO2 is interesting candidate because of its low cost, nontoxicity and abundant presence in nature. In this work, crystalline SnO2 was prepared by sol–gel process using alcoholic solution of tin(II) chloride. Obtained material was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and it was applied onto platinum and glassy carbon supports. Electrochemical properties were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and quartz crystal microbalance (QCMB) in 0.5 mol dm-3 KCl. Cyclic voltammograms showed high currents in wide potential range indicating capacitive behavior of SnO2. Mass change vs. potential data reveal that charging/discharging mechanism of SnO2 does not involve intercalation/deintercalation of cations as is the case with other other metal oxides such as RuO2 and MnO2 [2].
