A Turbulent Flow Shape Optimization Method For Cascade Profile Design
The paper presents a shape optimization method for 2D cascade profile design. Using commercial turbulent flow modeling software FLUENT and genetic algorithm optimizer, the weighted value of the desired impeller torque and profile circumferential to axial force ratio is maximized in the set of admissible profile shapes. The shape of the profile is given by four-digits NACA profile. The optimization parameters are x and y chordwise coordinates of maximum skew position, thickness to chord ratio and angle of attack. The macrocode has been developed that couples all three elements of the modeling and optimization process: preBFC and Tgrid automatic mesh generator, FLUENT turbulent k-e flow simulator and genetic algorithm optimization module.
