Sažetak
This paper has defined a new approach to soil remediation and, accordingly, protection of groundwater, described on the example of the Train yard in Zagreb. It can be applied in cases of petroleum spills on railroad tracks. In the mentioned procedure of remediation, this paper suggests using a machine for purifying ballast prism track as an instrument for railroad material remediation, primarily because it can start the procedure of remediation in short time by arrival at the accident scene, immediately after eliminating the source of contamination. The gathered material is loaded into wagons and in that way, under the condition of a reaction in due time, contaminated railroad materials are completely disposed and no longer pose a threat to groundwater, avoiding later remediation whose result is often uncertain. Of course, all of that is preceded by creating a quality procedure of remediation which should be respected by all railroad services. Violating the order of procedures could cause damage for the environment and material goods, also increasing the probability for workers injuries
