Liming effects on yield of alfalfa hay and toxic metals concentrations
The field experiment with liming by of dolomite (56% CaO and 40% MgO) was started in autumn 2004 (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 t ha-1 ; randomized block design ; four replicates ; basis plot 20.0 m2). Alfalfa (cultivar Osjecanka 88) was sown in term of March 25, 2005. In general, low concentrations of heavy metals (dry matter of hay ; the second cutting in 2005) were found (mg kg-1) as follows: 0.063 Cd, 0.385 Cr, 2.75 Ni, 3.95 Ba. Bellow detection limits were concentrations of Hg (<0.12), Pb (<0.30) and As (<0.40). As affected by liming, heavy metals concentrations were decreased for 60% (Cd), 52% (Ba), 30% (Ni) and 23% (Cr).
