Back to the Balkans: Croatia's Foreign Policy After EU Accession
With membership in the European Union, Croatia officially leaves the region designated by the European Commission as Western Balkans. This is a strong argument for those who have insisted that Croatian identity has always been more European than Balkan and that thus today Croatia, as an EU member state, should focus its attention to other regions in Europe and the world, disassociating as much as possible from the Western Balkans. Yet, in foreign policy realm Croatia will not only be able to ignore developments in the WB region, as its immediate neighborhood, but it would not be prudent to do so with respect to the country's national interests.
