The role of high education in knowledge-based economy

Developed countries and countries in process of transition have embraced the concept of knowledge- based economy which is based of the development level of knowledge and innovation. Capabilities of proper knowledge distribution through formal and informal networks represent a key role for economic performance. Large number of developed economies had adjusted the need of society with the education system. Science sector, with special concern of high education system carries a key function in knowledge based economy which has the role of production, transition and transfer of gathered knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to present the theoretical findingsof the concept of knowledge economy and to present the current level of high-education level in Sibenik-Knin County. The goal of the research is to define the level of current level of education and knowledge of employees in private and public sector with the specific needs among employers. Further, the purpose of the research is to present the new implication for the future growth of knowledge economy in Sibenik-Knin County.
