Geological model of the lithosphere at the contact of the Adriatic microplate and the Pannonian segment
At the contact of the Dinarides and the Pannonian basin a subduction model has been considered for a long time as a contact of the Adriatic microplate and the Pannonian segment of the Eurasian plate. Main argument in these considerations is mostly seismic activity in the area. However, subduction contact and especially the location of the subduction haven't been reliable determined. Many authors proved that subduction processes were very intensive from Triassic to Pliocene, and discussions are only on certain phases of the processes. In the present time it seems there is no classical subduction than under thrusting of the plate. The basic data for this analysis were acquired by recent control source (ALP 2002) and passive (ALPASS-DIPS) seismic experiments which were carried out in the purpose of determination present relationships at the contact of the Adriatic and European plates covering very wide area from the Alpine to the Dinaridic and Pannonian regions. The main purpose of this presentation is more reliable determination of the present geological model at the contact of the Adriatic microplate and Pannonian segment on the basis geophysical data and models obtained in framework of recent seismic and gravity investigations. On that way more integral insight in the tectonic and structural relations of the study area can be achieved which could also explain some processes during geological history.
