Beforehand
It is to be hoped that the empirical evidence and theoretical arguments assembled in this volume suffice for the stimulation of novel insights that may encourage views beyond the orthodox. For instance, they may facilitate belief that the mind is many ways, by no means only that to which current mainstream theorizing has reduced it ; that thoughts are manifested also in movements, for example, in the scripture of intercorporeal relations, par- ticipatory movements, and signifying gestures ; that most of acting is per- formed in disobedience to deliberation ; and, finally, that much of our coping in the world is in a significant (and for humans specific) way a manifesta- tion of the “knowledge in the hands.”
