The effect of verbal encouragement on results of some motor tests.
Verbal encouragement is an act of verbal stimulation of subject’s motivation so he could perform his best. The aim of this study was to determine whether verbal encouragement has a significant effect on results of two motor tests: for estimation of coordination (MAGOSS) and static strength of legs. The participants were 46 Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb female freshmen (22 in experimental and 24 in control group) aged 19±1 years. Descriptive statistics and t-test for independent samples were used for data analysis. Results suggest that there is statistically significant impact of verbal encouragement on results regardless of relatively small sample size. Subjects involved in this study are not top athletes so it is possible that they have not precise perception of their maximal abilities (Chitwood et al., 1997) and/or they have not been motivated enough so verbal encouragement motivated them to show their full potential
