Effects of epicardial adipose tissue on myocardial morphology and function present a risk for development of cardiovascular diseases. Epicardial adipose tissue is predominantly deposited above the right heart, particularly above the apex, lying directly next to the myocardium layer and having the same microcirculation. While it is well known that epicardial adipose tissue has inflammatory-metabolic effect via “inside out” pathway, its local mechanical effect and accumulation of intramyocardial fat are less investigated.
