Dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Migration of New Minorities From and To Newly Formed States
As the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia dissolved in the 1990s and new independent states were created, the previously autochtonous domicile and constitutive peoples became minorities. Since gaining independence mostly included many years of war and conflicts, many of the newly formed minorities were forced to migrate. This paper aims at showing the permanent migrations of co-ethnic population, i.e. migrations into the ethnic homeland. The autor analyses the importance of culture in the creation of cohesion in a community and the symbolic creation of boundaries between newly arrived and autochthonous population of the same ethnic religious identity.
