Testing of anticorrosion performance of temporary protectives
Advantage of some of the commercially available products for temporary corrosion protection include: easy application and removal from the surface, safety in contact with food and corrosion resistance in harsh environments. In this study the anticorrosion properties of the two types of products for the temporary corrosion protection of bronze parts in conditions of extreme atmospheric corrosivity have been tested. The first tested product, according to the manufacturer’s data, is made up of oils and additives that provide better wetting of metal surfaces than conventional temporary protectives. The second tested product has a non-aromatic hydrocarbons carrier and maintains high corrosion protection efficiency in a wide range of temperatures. Protective efficiency of was determined by applying the products to samples of tin bronze (Cu6Sn) in one or two layers and by using the technique of electrochemical linear polarization in 3.5% NaCl-in at 25 ° C. The effect of the orientation of samples exposed to elevated temperature of 85 °C on retaining the corrosion protective properties has been investigated. To simulate realistic exposure conditions - heating it in the sun during the day and exposure to the atmosphere of high humidity and chloride concentration during the night - the samples were alternately heated and exposed in salt spray cabinet.
