Quality assurance in Gamma Knife radiosurgery: verifying a film dosimeter position in stereotactic space
The accuracy of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) procedure is limited by uncertainties of steps in the treatment chains beginning with imaging and target localization and ending with the dose planning and treatment. However, best precission of SRS procedure can never be better than the poorest accuracy of one of the single steps in treatment chain. These uncertainties build up by target localization via imaging, dose planning, patient positioning, irradiation, mechanical and other errors. To ensure maximum spatial accuracy, geometrical positions should be known with the deviation less than 1 mm. In this paper the modified method for quality assurance (QA) in Gamma Knife (GK) radiosurgery was applied, based on the global system test for verifying the accuracy of radiosurgery.
