A Sketch for a Chronicle of (Anti-)Prescriptivism

After a period of criticism about interference in language along a class or national lines, especially by American structuralists, the pressure of "political correctness" seems to have caused the rehabilitation of prescriptivism under a new name, whereby individuals and groups demand the change of linguistic behaviour of others.
