Electromagnetic MWD and Potentiality of Its Use in Croatian Practice

MWD technology which is using pulse telemetry has become a common way of obtaining in-real-time downhole drilling data in order to make drilling operation more efficient. The working principle of the pulse type telemetry has certain limitations such as a need for constant mud circulation and use of non-compressible fluids. In order to make telemetry and UBD possible, a system applying electromagnetic waves was developed. It has high power EM downhole transmitters, real-time modems and offers the possibility of two-way communication.
