Irritant contact dermatitis in Zagreb/Croatia
The aim of this survey was to stimulate further studies in the field of irritant contact dermatitis(ICD). Epidemiological study of 948 ICD cases in Allergy Clinic Department of Dermatology Zagreb, Croatia was made during the three years period, 1993-1996. In all cases the clinical diagnoses was substantiated by negative patch testing. There were 644 female and 304 males. The greatest number of patients belonged to the age group 20-39 year. The most affected skin lesions were on hands (792), hands and face (55), on feets (38) and forearms (31). The most frequent categories with ICD were workers 531; (230 male and 301 female), than were employees 85 (82 female and 3 male); housewifes 62, students 66(29 male and 37 female), and other professions in less number. With skin lesions for ICD were patients with other diagnoses too, like: Atopic dermatitis, Stomatitis, Contact urticaria, Polenosis, Psoriasis vulgaris etc. On the bases of dermatological state and anamneses were done tests for exclusion of other dermatoses like mycological examination (175), histopathology (31), intracutan and scratch tests(109). Conclusion: Epidemiologic data on the incidence of ICD in Zagreb during 1993-1996 year period were made. In this period 948 patients were detected. On the basis of the results of our studies also in necessary to take consideration: to improve the condition of work and living by regular use of the protective gloves, creams and clothes.
