Effect of perinatal treatment with serotonin agonists on immunological and hematological parameters in adult rats
Serotonin (5HT) is a biogenic amine present in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues, including the components of the immune system. Consequences of disrupted homeostasis of serotonin were observed in hematological and immunological parameters in adult rats. Treatment had an effect on the blood cells - males TCP treated group had increased total leukocyte count, and a group of males treated with 5HTP and TCP had significantly reduced the number of platelets. Treatment had an impact on immunological parameters (concentration of cytokines). 5HTP treated group had elevated levels of IL1-a, and the group treated with TCP had reduced level of IL1-a.
