Stakeholders' Analysis Of Innovation - The Case Of The New EU Member State Croatia
Innovations are enhanced by the companies’ collaboration with stakeholders. Contemporary research on stakeholders’ involvement is based on the sample of large companies in the developed countries and limited for the small and medium- sized companies in countries undergoing continuous structural change. This study presents empirical findings which analyze small and medium-sized companies’ collaboration with stakeholders and its impact on innovation. It is based on the sample of 171 small and medium-sized companies and conducted over the period between January and June 2012 in the new EU member state, the Republic of Croatia. The study suggests that Croatian SMEs aim at product and process innovations and disregard social innovations. Moreover, two differing factors influencing innovation are: the actual innovation-led cooperation and the perceived importance of cooperation. The results show that the factual collaboration with stakeholders is more important to innovation processes than their perceived value. These findings portray the unexplored and marginalized relationships which, if pursued, could increase companies’ productivity and added value.
