Aspects of Romantic Love in North American Fiction: Toni Morrison, Michael Ondaatje and Zora Neale Hurston
This paper discusses the usage of romantic love in the novels of Toni Morrison, Michael Ondaatje and Zora Neale Hurston. Gordan Matas describes how the concept of romantic love is used by the three authors to achieve personal growth and empowerment, in spite of racial discrimination and historical obstacles. At the same time, it is depicted how the lack of love is frequently caused by the prevailing prejudices both in white as well as in ethnic communities.
