Detailed analysis of the effect of the turbine and compressor isentropic efficiency on the thermal efficiency and the total entropy change of Brayton cycle
In this paper, energy and entropy analysis of the Brayton cycle with ideal gas of constant physical properties and with the specific heat ratios k = 1.3 and k=1.4 is given. Two cases with reversible (isentropic) and irreversible adiabatic processes in the turbine and compressor are considered. The cycles are analyzed in dependence of the pressure ratio p2/p1 and the ratio T3/T1 of turbine inlet temperature T3 and the compressor inlet temperature T1. Irreversibility of the adiabatic processes in the turbine and compressor is taken into account using the values of the isentropic efficiencies, for compresor 0.88 and for turbine 0.92. All relevant expressions are given in an analytical form, and results are shown in diagrams and interpreted for the values of pressure ratio in the range from 1.0 to 22.0 and the values of the temperature ratio T3/T1 = 1.5 ; 2.0 ; 3.0 ; 3.5 and 4.0.
