Efficiency of vapour phase inhibitor in corrosion protection of Al-Mg-Si alloy

In this paper corrosion efficiency of vapour phase inhibitor VP-BD was studied aiming at its performances in protection of aluminium alloy EN AW6060 in deaerated solution of 3.5% NaCl. Electrochemical test were performed with inhibitor added in concentration range of 50 ppm to 500 ppm. Potentiodynamic polarization curves showed that vapour phase inhibitor acts as mixed-type one and its adsorption on Al-alloy surface follows Langemuir adsorption isotherm. According to the thermodynamic parameters, the VP-BD adsorption can be described as physical spontaneous process.
