Optimization of cutting parameters in three axis surface milling
A correctly designed machining process can substantially affect overall production cost. In this article, intention is mainly focused on the determining the cutting parameters in three axis surface milling required to minimize the cutting time and at the same time maintaining an acceptable quality level of the workpiece with complex geometry. Experimental data will be obtained by performing the experiments, according to the adopted plan of experiments, in a virtual environment, i.e. experiments will be simulated on the computer software package CATIA. To determine the optimal cutting parameters, a cutting time equation has to be formulated to correlate the cutting parameters with the cutting time. The cutting time equation is formulated as an objective function in the form of mathematical programming. The problem is usually subjected to constraints for design variables and to inequality and equality constraints for process outputs, such as surface roughness and physical capacities of the machine tool.
